Go in Peace stands with anyone who has ever paused at the entrance of a public restroom. This includes transgender and gender-nonconforming people, caregivers assisting others, parents with children of a different gender, and anyone who doesn’t feel seen by binary signage. Yet this simple shift benefits far more than these groups. Removing gendered signs can shorten wait times, streamline access, and improve the overall convenience of public restrooms for everyone.
Led by a gender-nonconforming teammate, our group of four set out to develop a design solution that could create tangible change within our local community. Rather than stopping at awareness, we built a three-part strategy tailored to each segment of our audience: offering education and resources to small businesses, driving engagement through social media for the general public, and equipping county officials with practical tools such as petition email templates and a formal presentation.

The Next Steps
Our team presented Go In Peace to a panel of community leaders in the Charlotte area, and we’re now working toward bringing the campaign to life. With strong encouragement and positive feedback from mentors and industry professionals, we’re optimistic about the future of the initiative. In the meantime, you can explore our full process by downloading the complete case study PDF below.
